downloading or using the CSUAC! Download the EULA. Click here!
(PDF file - 152 KB). The CSUAC is a 600 MB collection of Fractal Mapper 8 symbol and fill
patters. It includes graphical mapping
material in these categories: ·
Fantasy. ·
Modern. ·
Science
Fiction. After downloading, follow the installation
instructions below. The symbols and
fill patterns will be available the next time you call up Fractal Mapper 8. Scaling files are included in all symbol

BL7_FM8.zip file. To install the files, you need to know where you
installed FM8 and how the NBOS
folder structure looks. In a default installation,
that path usually begins on Drive C in a folder named Program Files, Program Files (x86) or Programs. If you installed FM8 somewhere else, then you'll have to rely on your memory to
know where that is. Once you've found
it, the folder structure looks like this:
Here's what you do: ·
Close
FM8, if you have the program open. ·
The
CSUAC Fill Patterns are in the file BL_FM8_Fills.zip. Unzip the contents of this file into the
folder named FillPatterns. See above. ·
All
of the remaining ZIP files contain CSUAC mapping symbols. Unzip all
of these files into the folder named MapArt. See above. ·
After
you've unzipped all of the files, reopen FM8. You now should see the CSUAC mapping symbol
catalogs under Mapping Symbols and
the CSUAC fill patterns under Fill
Styles, as in the graphic below.
Learning
to Use Raster Graphics: The Vintyri Project has published a free raster
mapping tutorial that teaches you how to use the CSUAC and other raster fill
patterns and symbols in your cartography.
Five files are available for download. All are in the same download folder: 1. pdftu01.zip is a
necessary file. It contains the
tutorial PDF booklet (40 MB). 2. tu01sptpack01.zip also is a necessary
file, It contains all the support
files necessary to do the exercises in the booklet. Be
sure to read the small PDF file in this zip! It contains important information (47 MB). The three remaining files are optional. They contain finished versions of the three
main maps made in the tutorial exercises: ·
overland.zip, from Chapter 2 (24 MB) ·
odinsdomov.zip from Chapter 3 (60 MB) ·
oldwellinn.zip from Chapter 4 (16 MB) Vintyri

these three maps or the Fallen Lands
map in the support pack to immediately click the menu option Map in FM8 and then the option Display
Quality. Set the basic Display Quality to Highest and then pick Special Effects - Medium Res. Without these settings, the maps will not
always work in the manner described in the tutorial! The CSUAC is a collection of cartographic objects
created by Dundjinni users. After completion of the CSUAC, the German
cartographer Sendorian began compiling new fill
patterns and symbols created by Dundjinni
users in a monthly archive. This
collection is even larger than the CSUAC.
You can download the fill patterns and symbols in Sendorian's
collection at: http://www.dundjinni.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=11001&KW=sendorian PLEASE NOTE: If you
install symbols downloaded from Sendorian's site in
a folder that is not part of the CSUAC, copy the file default.xml from a CSUAC folder into the new folder. This will assure that the new symbols will
be scaled correctly in Fractal Mapper 8. |
Do You
Need to Embed the CSUAC Symbols?:
Most FM8 users make their maps with FM8 and then
export them for further use (if at all) as flattened maps in JPG and other
formats. If that's what you do, skip
this section.
However, some FM8 users want to do more with their
maps in the native FM8 FMP format. This is particularly important if you want to
let others work on or modify your original maps. If these users haven't installed the CSUAC,
all CSUAC symbols will vanish from the maps when they're on these users'
computers. You can get a full
explanation of this issue and how to resolve it on the NBOS website at:
